Brief History

There are several versions of the original name that exist today. The Spaniards called it Turrealba, which is White Tower in English. Some say that it came from the indigenous word Turru while others say it's from the town with the same name located in the hillside. Similiar to other volcanoes in Coast Rica, it was very popular before the arrival of the Spaniards.
