Brief History

the National Park Santa Rosa is located to 35 km, the north of Liberia. Account with an asphalt road internal of 7 km in length that leads to the Historical Museum Large house of Santa Rosa, area to encamp and the administrative area. In Santa Rosa information can be obtained to visit other protected sectors of the Area of Conservacio'n Guanacaste (ACG). The Large house of Santa Rosa was created like National Monument by law the 1 of 1966 July. The 27 of March of 1971 Santa Rosa declared itself like National Park, along with the bordering earth. In 1980, Bat by Executive Decree extended itself with the sector. The sector Bat is located to 9 km of Cuajiniquil, (60 km, to the north of Liberia following the inter-American highway). Santa Rosa comprises of the protected wild areas of the ACG, altogether with the National Parks Guanacaste and Rinco'n of the old one, the Forest Experimental Station Horizons and the Refuge of Wild Life Junquillal Bay. The Property Santa Rosa registers in the pages of our history mother country from century XIX. The 20 of March of 1856, took place in Santa Rosa, the most important battle in the fight against the entrance of North American filibusteros, coming from Nicaragua. Also it has been scene of other historical battles.

the national park Santa Rosa is located in the provinces of Guanacaste in the North Pacific to only 36 km to the north of the city of Liberia,

Natural and Cultural Resources

Santa Rosa conserve the most important sample of protected dry forest of Central America, which includes forest species like the Guanacaste (Enterolobium cyclocarpum), Pochote (quinata Bombacopsis), Guapinol (courbaril Hymenaea), Indian Desnudo or Jiñocuave (Bursera simaruba) and the Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla). This forest characterizes by a noticeable difference between the rainy station and the drought, when it loses most of the foliage. In the sector of the coasts the Red Mangle predominates (Rhizophora mangle), as well as, other species of vegetation of mangle in Costa Rica. In Santa Rosa are 115 species of mammals, where they excel the Deer White Tail, (Odocoileus virginianus), Congo Monkey (palliata Alouatta) and White Expensive Monkey (Cebus capucinus), just like Pizotes (narica Nasua). Between the birds the Magpie predominates (Calocitta Formosa). Reptíles more representative is the dark-brown Turtle (olivacea Lepidochelys), serpent Bell (Crotalus durissus) and the Garrobo (Ctenosaurus similis). Ten exist in Santa about Rosa habitats, among them, always green forests of encino, forests, manglares, riereños marshes, forests, stocky forests, beach vegetation and pastizales or savannahs. The savannahs are constituted mainly by the grass jaragua and dispersed trees such as: tol of encino, nance, the chumico of wood or raspaguacal, cornizuelo and jicaro. Given to the particularitities of a dry station defined good in which the vegetation almost loses the totality of the foliage Santa Rosa. The marine turtles visit the beaches of the park throughout the year and is possible to observe them to nest in beach naranjo. In the park is an importance population of pumas (Felis with color) and is easy to find venados(odocoileus virginianus), monkeys coNgos (Alouatta palliata)y expensive white (Cebus capucinus), just like pizotes(Nasua narica), mooses, saínos, raccoons. The semithorny mouse is mamiferfro more abundant of all. Some of the most excellent birds are the magpie, the frentianaranjada perico, red widow, the matraquero soterrey, the cargahuesos, pavón, the sparrowhawk crab seller and the dancer colilargo. The diversity of insects is enormous, single in nocturnal butterflies has in the park more than 5,000 species. Beaches To 12 km of the administration is Naranjo Beach. This beach surrounded by manglares, is of great beauty, the route can be done solely on foot or in vehicle of double traction at the dry time, following the footpaths defined. In the same direction of Naranjo and of 17 km of the administration, one is Nancite Beach, one of the most important beaches of the mesoamericano Pacific for the egg-laying of the dark-brown turtle. By its ecological characteristics its access is restricted. Other important beaches are: White beach (17 km of area to encamp), Bay Santa Elena and Bay the Hachal. These last ones located in the sector Bat. The beaches Nacife and Naranjo are of great scenic beauty and important areas for the egg-laying of turtles narnas like dark-brown and baula. This park is important for the protection and restoration of the inhabitants of the climatic region denominated dry Pacific.

Suggestions

By law do not allow to the entrance of mascots nor the animal extraction or plants. It does not throw butts of cigarettes, nor it makes bonfires. Use the grills located in the area to encamp uses coal or kitchen of gas. Deposit the sweepings in his place. Walk solely by the indicated footpaths. During the night it always uses center. Always remember to take to water and suitable shoes. If it visits Naranjo Beach, it takes water, the access is possible single in vehicle double traction, at single rainy time on foot. The fishing is not allowed in this protected area. If it wishes to visit Nancite Beach requires of a permission of the office of Ecoturismo of área,
