Natural and Cultural Resources

Hydric Aspects the water easts, broken and as much as seasonal existing permanent rivers of the place have not been investigated like either the underground sources. Nevertheless, the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewage systems (AyA) have made estimations on the capacity of the reservorios of waters for the supplying in the city of Liberia and neighboring communities. As far as the thermal lagoons and sources temperatures and mineral contents of some sites have taken to registries on the part of the Observatory Vulcanológico and Sismológico (OVSICORI) on, but more studies have not been made than they allow to determine his fragility with exactitude. Advances of some studies made in pailas of mud exist detecting itself the presence of apparently endemic estremófilos organisms. These studies have been made by the National Institute of Biodiversity and the Center of Molecular and Cellular Biology of the UCR, to determine if organisms like bacteria, seaweed or protozooarios can survive in conditions of acidity and temperatures like the one of those sites, but in no case has been focused to determine fragility or risks. ERUPTIONS MAY 1991 SEPTEMBER 1992 May 1991- Earthquakes of LF and small explosion day of May to the 7 Setiembre1992 08:11 a.m.. Main explosion day 08 of May to the 10:17 a.m. with a column that reached 5 km of height and originated lahares towards the north. From the 08 to the 11 of May there was a progressive decrement of the frequency of the explosions. Until September of 1992 there were intermittent smaller explosions. As a result of the volcanic activity presented/displayed in this year, the National Commission of Emergency it considered that "es possible that in the rainy period mud avalanches are generated, dragging rocks, trees and material in suspension in the channels of the Rivers Pénjamo, Blue and Sulphured Gorge, causing problems in the margins or bordering property, as well as in the bridge and passages of such.
